Come for the food, stay for each other.
There are infinite stories we could tell about Doing Things to Feel Things–stories about who we are and how we got here. We could tell you how we fell in love and how we want to share that love with the world through food. We could tell you that we’re moved deeply by the natural world and the way it emerges in infinite, organic complexity to make us wise to our own infinite complexity. We could tell all kinds of stories, and we intend to just that with our meals.
But before story, there is experience.
There is doing and feeling. There’s the first bite of a fresh strawberry and the resulting feeling of gleeful shock, replaced by arousal, delight, and ecstasy. There’s remembering it in November and feeling wistful for that time–a sign to spark up a new romance with those pears you’ve been eyeing at the market. There’s laughing with joy amongst friends, meeting new people with apprehension, then relief, then triumph, and there’s a lifetime of love getting to know that person you met at that supper club that one time. There are moments of transcendental wonder and authenticity, and challenges we can get through together. Let’s do it all and feel it all as one.

We love to cook because we love to eat. We love to eat because we love to live. We love to live because everywhere we look, there are wonderful curiosities to sample. Los Angeles, a metropolitan paradise of diversity and access to global cultures with a climate that makes it possible to grow dang-near anything, is the perfect backdrop for this sort of sampling. Today, we’re meeting a new neighbor to get permission to make a dish out of the callianthe picta flowers growing in their front yard, and tomorrow we’re picking up chapulines from a small, Oaxacan grocery store. Just as we get jolts of animating energy when people pique our curiosity, so too do we jolt alive learning about all the new ingredients we can share, parts of the world we can connect you to, and stories we can tell about the vastness of the human experience.
